Oh, my goodness, where would we be as yarn artists without sheep and alpacas not to forget all of the other wonderful animals that supply us with these extraordinary fibres to work with. I have been blessed to meet a wonderful woman named Kathryn who owns https://theaustralianwoolstore.com/ and she introduced me to her fabulous range of yummy soft squishy yarns. Let’s just say inspiration overload, I have been playing with and creating some great little items for you, they are still in production and the pattern writing stage but keep an eye out for new releases.

Some are simple and great for beginners, and some are for the more experienced artists. This particular one is a gorgeous colourwork cowl that shows off some cute little sheep and alpacas and a few Border Collie dogs watching over the herd.

Oh my goodness, where would we be without sheep and alpacas, not to mention all the other wonderful animals that supply us with these extraordinary fibres to work with? The Maroochy Road Trip Cowl is Kathy’s tribute to them: a gorgeous colourwork cowl parading cute little sheep and alpacas around your neck, with a few Border Collie dogs keeping everyone in line.

She was born after Kathy met Kathryn, the woman behind The Australian Wool Store, and her fabulous range of yummy, soft, squishy yarns. Inspiration overload, in the best way.

Colourwork that looks knitted

Waistcoat stitch throughout – dense, warm and stacked straight, so the animals come out crisp from the chart.
Four colours – main, contrast, white for the sheep and a little black for the details.
Worked in a spiral with a post-stitch rib band at each end; start with the rib or add it at the finish.
4 ply or 8 ply – choose a softer, thicker feel or a denser finish, with hook sizes for both.
Kathy’s notes on floating or crocheting over your colour changes, plus the little tricks for the alpaca necks and eyes.
