Little Buds of Love, a gorgeous little crocheted cowl was inspired by The Mudgee Cowl a knitted pattern by Kathryn Trippett.

It is with this inspiration that I started to work with the yarn and she began to take shape, stitch by delicate stitch. I sat in the late afternoon and as one bud turned into another I thought about how wonderful she would feel around my neck in winter. Perhaps she would be worn on a chilly morning walk to the beach, or snuggled into during a relaxing afternoon overlooking the amazing blue of the waters surrounding my home. She isn’t just a garment; she is a wearable embrace.

Little Buds of Love is a stylish and cosy cowl, and a very elegant addition to Kathy’s waistcoat-stitch collection. Worked up in a stunning hand-dyed yarn paired with a luscious mohair fluff, she has that dreamy, romantic halo, and the little buds that give her her name.

Inspired by the Mudgee Cowl, a knitted pattern by Kathryn Trippett, she took shape stitch by delicate stitch one late afternoon. As one bud turned into another, Kathy thought about how wonderful she would feel around the neck in winter: on a chilly morning walk to the beach, or snuggled into during a relaxing afternoon overlooking the amazing blue of the water.

Buds, halo and a clever taper

Waistcoat stitch – the crochet stitch that looks knitted, the ultimate way to confuse your knitting friends.
Wrapped seed stitch – a two-stitch combination that creates the gorgeous little bud texture, with a photo tutorial.
Shaped with hooks, not decreases – the cowl tapers gently from the shoulders up by stepping down through five hook sizes, so the stitch count never changes.
Worked in a spiral with a neat rib at both ends.
