This was the first design Kathy created for The Australian Wool Store’s yarn advent calendar, working through 25 colours and watching the stunning yarn grow into this breathtaking beauty. She’s a lovely long wrap, reminiscent of the Doctor Who scarf at almost three metres, but light enough to wrap around twice and feel so warm without the bulk.

Advent kit or stash buster

• Made for a 25-colour advent calendar, but you can use as many or as few colours as you like. It’s a wonderful home for mini skeins.
• A simple wave stitch for the body, with the colours blending into each other over a few rows at every change.
• Lace sections at intervals along the length, with chains, picots and openwork for that “light through water” feel.
• A lacy edge along one long side in a neutral colour to finish, with fans of trebles and half doubles.
• Photos of the colour changes and the lace rows, plus Kathy’s hook-size tips so the lace sections don’t pull in.
